As we came back from break Tuesday, January 3rd, Noelle Iben was recognized as staff member of the week. This is Iben’s first year being a School Counselor. She shared that she had been working as a Mental Health Therapist for quite a few years before making the decision to change careers. When contemplating her career change she decided to go back to school. She loves getting to know all of the students and finding out what excites them.

When discussing what drew Iben toward counseling she says, “Since college, I’ve always worked with teenagers and have always enjoyed getting to know them and their families. I get to work with students through the highs and the lows of adolescence and that’s a pretty wonderful opportunity to make a difference”.

Iben was drawn to West High because of her past experience. “I had previously done School Based Therapy at Success Street at West years ago. I had always enjoyed the staff, students, and the environment at West and knew that if given the opportunity, I would love to further my career here,” she said.

Although she loves her job she also loves her free time. “My husband and I have a one-year-old son and we enjoy trying new things with him and watching him grow and learn. I really enjoy working on our home projects, traveling, and watching baseball – specifically the Cubs.”

When asked about how she felt about being nominated she said it was a very special moment, especially being new to West. “It’s always appreciated to be recognized for the work that you do and connections you’re making.”
