A teen boy adjusts his tie while he looks out into the distance. Many teenagers attend prom each year and it is looked forward to by many.
Let’s be honest, Prom can add up quickly: the dress, the shoes, dinner, tickets, and activities after prom. It can all be overwhelming and honestly exhausting, but as someone who has already gone to prom three times and is gearing up for her fourth time going, I am here to help you out.
Waterloo is a very diverse community, and with this comes very diverse financial situations; some people may be much more prepared for the costs of prom than others. But no matter what situation you’re in, we would all love to save a little money here and there. Saving money for larger events, especially prom, can be difficult. There are lots of expectations and standards that society has for people who attend prom, which can become costly very quickly.
According to a study done by VISA, the average prom attendee can spend up to 900 dollars on one individual. Cost is something that has only become more and more of a barrier for students in recent years. Due to these barriers, the number of students going to prom has decreased throughout high schools across the country. Thankfully, there are many ways to not only avoid this from happening here at West, but we can also take individual steps to help others and make sure everybody can go to prom.
Now that you have all the tools to not only make this the best prom ever but also make it the most cost-friendly prom as well. Prom is in the midst of May, one of those times of the year when it seems like everything is happening all at once. Taking routes that can save just a little bit of money can make all of our lives easier and make everyone happy in the end.
Saving money for prom looks different for everybody; some would rather splurge on a dress, while others may choose to rent out a car or plan an extensive after-prom activity. Thankfully, this is an experience that is fully customizable; there is no one-size-fits-all solution, which is where the beauty lies. Having friends and family help you throughout the getting-ready process and helping you make your arrangements for prom can lead to some pretty memorable moments, which you will learn to cherish and love later in life.
