Fans had the opportunity to purchase tickets Thursday morning for the musical festival taking place later in August. The big names headlining the festival drew a lot of attention, having fans from other states question, why Iowa?
Starting August 2, 2024 spanning to August 4, 2024, big artists like Hozier, Vampire Weekend, Noah Kahan and many more other artists will be taking the stage, performing their amazing songs. With these headliners, many alternative, indie, folk music lovers were influenced to purchase a ticket. Whether that be a 3-day ticket or a singular day pass, fans were determined to attend.
This year, Hinterland tried something new when selling tickets; they split the tickets into different tiers. The reasoning behind this was to motivate buyers to buy their tickets as soon as possible for the cheapest price. On the Hinterland post advertising that the “presale” was starting now, many fans had a lot to say.
One fan, West senior Brylee Weber, shared her thoughts on the tier pricing. Weber only purchased a single day pass for day 3 instead of a 3 day pass. She shares that “the one day passes were pretty high in comparison to the 3 day passes. You didn’t end up saving much money only buying one day.” The single day tickets started at $145 in comparison to a 3 day ticket starting at $250.
The tier breakdown for the passes started at tier 1, $250, then an increase to $275 for tier 2, with a final sale of $300. However, with service fees up to $30 along with a standard shipping fee and taxes per ticket, it added about another $50 to the ticket price. You also had to purchase a car pass in order to park your car where you will be staying which is an additional $40, which has its own fees and taxes.
Not only was it a lack of communication from the seller to the buyer, but terrible planning altogether. A presale occurs before the general public sale; to secure tickets for this, buyers have to sign up for a chance to receive a code. The presale code, “THELAND” was then published on Hinterlands Instagram, turning the presale into a general public sale.
However, the hype to achieve these tickets is not something you would want to miss out on. On the first day the lineup is Debbi Dawson, Odie Leigh, Josiah and the Bonneville, Sam Barber, Hippo Campus, Orville Peck and Hozier.
Day two is welcomed with Hans Williams, Blondshell, Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners, Madison Cunningham, The Red Clay Strays, Charley Crockett, Lizzy McAlpine, and Vampire Weekend.
The third and final day of the festival has Palehound, Katy Kirby, The Last Dinner Party, Flipturn, The Japanese House, Chappell Roan, Ethel Cain, Mt. Joy, and Noah Kahan.
Hinterland this year has gained a lot of traction from social media. Many fans, as well as influencers, took to apps like TikTok to share the amazing line up. A popular video can be seen below. It blew up and had many newcomers wanting to attend this music festival in a small Iowa town.
However, despite all the pricing and hard trials to acquire a ticket, many fans are so happy to be going, even with the lack of communication. A senior at West High, Hannah Connor, shares
Iowa is ready to welcome all of these amazing artists coming to Iowa this August. Despite the hardships to get the tickets and the lack of communication between the seller and the buyers, fans are still happy to be attending.
