Congratulations to all the seniors of West High that have graduated on May 21st, 2024. Entering high school has been difficult due to the pandemic in 2020 but after four years they were able to persevere and complete high school. From requiring masks and zoom calls in their freshman year to standing in cap and gown, our seniors have made a giant leap towards adulthood.
Jared Smith, the superintendent of Waterloo Schools Community Districts, gave a speech at the start of the ceremony. “There have certainly been tough times and moments when you felt like giving up, however each of you have persevered and made it to this special moment for that I commend you. It has been a privilege and an honor to serve as your superintendent. My hope is that when you look back on your time in Waterloo Schools you remember the amazing experiences and countless opportunities that has shaped your journey. Congratulations to the class of 2024, we are incredibly proud of all that you have achieved,” Smith spoke.
During the ceremony, the class of 2024 heard speeches from Student Body President Isabel Stafsholt, Valedictorian Princess Kromah, and senior student Ali Parkhurst.
Andy Miehe delivered a speech at the end when every senior’s name was called. “Congratulations Waterloo West High class of 2024, we are now to the portion of the program where I invite you to move your tassels to your right to your left,” Miehe announced. With that ending speech the West seniors officially graduated from High School.
