Thursday, Nov. 21 2024 represents the first girl’s wrestling meet of the 2024-25 season. Waterloo West High’s girls wrestling team, consisting of West and East High students, went against Cedar Rapids Jefferson at 5:30 pm and Tripoli at 7:30 pm, in the Siddens Gymnasium at West High. The girls lost to Cedar Rapids Jefferson however they won as a team against Tripoli.
The girl’s varsity team had a total of three pins against Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Reagan Westphal, Libby Stocks and Kammie Gleiter each got a pin against the opposing school. Ultimately, West High gained a total of 18 points as a team against Cedar Rapids Jefferon’s 66 total points.
West High’s Junior Varsity team lost against Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s J-Hawks. The Junior Varsity girls ended up getting a few pins against the opposing team during the match on Thursday.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Tripoli’s wrestling teams went against one another at 6:30 pm in the Siddens Gymnasium. Tripoli’s wrestling team, consisting of four girls, ended up losing 0-84 against Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Due to the opposing school having a lack of wrestlers, there were multiple automatic wins for both West High and Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
The last match of the night started at an estimated 7:30 pm with the West High Wahawks going against the Tripoli Panthers. There were three pins on West High School’s behalf against Tripoli High School. Tripoli won one of the four matches they were able to wrestle on Thursday. Kammie Gleiter and Tamla Paw got pins in their matches against Tripoli. In the end, West High School won 54-6 against Tripoli High School.
Overall, West High won 1 out of 2 matches on Thursday, November 21 in the Siddens Gymnasium. This starts the girl’s season off to a 1-1 win streak.
