Nakia Ollivierre, a transfer from Ackley Geneva Wellsburg Steamboat Rock High School, has broken the school record for women’s Cross Country. The original time to beat was just over 20 minutes. Ollivierre, at the Luther meet, beat the record with a time of 19:02. Ollivierre is currently ranked third in the state for class 4A and is the fastest sophomore state-wide with only two seniors ranked above her. Not only did Ollivierre break the school record, but she also has continued to break her own records as the season progresses. She currently has the school record set as 18:19.
Q&A with Ollivierre
Q: How long have you been doing XC?
A: I started my freshman year, last year.
Q: When you moved to West, were you nervous about racing bigger schools?
A: I wasn’t exactly nervous, I just knew I had to work harder.
Q: What is a goal you would like to reach as you finish your season?
A: My goal is to place high at state and possibly win the championship because I am only 14 seconds under the girl who leads.
You can watch Ollivierre, along with the rest of the girls Cross Country team at the Steve Johnson Invite, which takes place September 30, in Waverly, Iowa.
