On October 7, East and West yearbook staffs collaborated and held a workshop at East High School. They came together to provide input and feedback on each other’s spreads and designs.
Throughout the day, students from both schools mixed together and split up into groups, and talked individually with one another. They did icebreakers, and got to know one another and each other’s yearbook programs. This lead into stations where students from both schools presented information to one another and gave advice.
West High’s advisor Nicole Goodman states, “I think it was a positive collaboration with East High and soon down the road the two programs will merge, as Waterloo has announced that we’re going to a 10 through 12 building, so I think it was a positive reaction to have the opportunity to collaborate.”
They shared out this years themes and spread ideas, which helped sparked inspiration and new ideas between both schools. A staff that was present, junior Brooklynn Berumez adds “The workshop was very insightful because I feel that between our two yearbook staffs, we are very different. Seeing their way of doing things and their methods is so different from us, and having that different perspective was interesting.”
Overall, students from both schools seemed to thoroughly enjoy being able to meet with another group and get other perspectives. Both were able to provide and receive thoughtful insight.
