Every year all the students at West High get together to decide who will represent their school for Homecoming Court. The whole week there was a tremendous amount of effort from everybody on the court and they put in many hours to represent our school the best they can as senior leaders.
From those people on the homecoming court, the juniors and seniors vote on who they would like to represent them as upperclassmen. This Homecoming was very special considering that West High does not have many Homecomings left as the new school is being built.
Being on Homecoming Court is a big responsibility which also comes with a chance to learn new things. Throughout the week the 18 seniors were expected to be at many school appearances, go through many interviews from staff and students as well as make a great representation of West High in addition to keeping up with their day-to-day. By the end of the week the 18 seniors were all elated and honored to be on Homecoming Court but also exhausted due to the strenous week they had.
There were a total of 18 Seniors on the Homecoming Court out of all these seniors there could only be two crowned king and queen. For this year’s 2024 Homecoming King and Queen, the juniors and seniors chose Jada Smith and Jahlil Manago. Manago plays on the football team here at West and plays on the basketball team as well. A few things Smith is involved in at West include the Bible Club and the volleyball team as well.
When asked about becoming the 2024 West High Homecoming Queen Smith shared that “I was happy to know that I am well-liked by my peers and it also assures me to know that I’m a good person.” Smith appreciates all the support from everybody when becoming Homecoming Queen. Smith plans to go to Northwest Missouri State University to play volleyball and study physical therapy. Manago plans to play basketball at the collegiate level and potentially make it to the pros.
Smith also encourages everybody to get out of their comfort zone and try something new, and most of all just enjoy your high school years.
