On November 18th, the downtown Rotary Club banquet celebrated the accomplishments of the four Waterloo High Schools. The event concluded with the awarding of the Glen “Doc” Miller Most Valuable Football Player Award, which goes to the most outstanding football player at either Columbus, Waterloo Christian, Waterloo East or Waterloo West. This year Brady Dean, Waterloo West’s starting quarterback, received this honor.
Dean led the West High Wahawks to a 6-3 regular season and a playoff appearance for the first time since the 2016 season. The season was marked by several achievements including the 12th straight victory over East High and a 4-0 start to the season for the first time since the 2016 season.

¨Brady’s leadership on and off the field was a key factor in his MVP campaign,¨ states varsity head coach Lonnie Moore. ¨His ability to inspire teammates, orchestrate game-winning drives, and elevate the performance of those around him were vital aspects of his MVP-worthy season.”
During this season, Dean completed 12 passing touchdowns, along with 8 rushing touchdowns. He achieved a total of 1,014 passing yards as well as earning 1st team Mississippi Valley Conference and 1st team district honors.
Dean was not alone in his conquest, he had his team behind him. When reflecting on what made this team different, he stated ¨It was the Culture. Being a part of this team gave me a glimpse as to what success looks like. When you have a bunch of guys who are bought in and trust each other as brothers.”
Coach Moore reiterated that sentiment stating “It was their unity, resilience, and determination displayed throughout. What truly made this team special was how they embraced each other’s strengths and weaknesses, creating an environment where everyone played a part in the collective success of the team.”
