In the second week of the second semester of the 2023 school year, Mr. Ortman sent out an email from the Be WEST Student Advisory Committee about organizing an attendance incentive on March 10. The following criteria for those who wish to partake in the event must have:

  • 10 or fewer tardies
  • 5 or fewer unexcused absences (1 missed class or 1 unexcused absence if it was not excused by a parent/guardian or school personnel)
  • 1 or fewer referrals
  • Students that receive a referral for defiance/disrespect, fighting, physical aggression, vaping, or possession and/or use of a controlled substance will be ineligible to participate

The event will consist of a ‘hip hop show’ hosted by Shaun Boothe, a hip hop artist that has been featured on programs like MTV and TedX. Boothe’s passion for speaking has led him down the inspirational speaker path, where he has been able to create a program called ‘Live Your Legacy. LYL (Live Your Legacy) leads Boothe to middle schools, high schools, college campuses, and performing art centers around the country to present his renowned project ‘The Unauthorized Biography Series’.

Boothe’s series is a musical project that “celebrates the world’s greatest cultural icons through biographical hip hop songs”. It features well known Black icons such as Bob Marley, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Oprah Winfrey, and many more. With this project he hopes to inspire others to become the best version of themselves and achieve greatness.

If you’d like to partake in this show, follow the requirements and we hope to see you there!
