If you haven’t checked out Pt. 1, 2 and 3 of the Mighty People Behind the Fall Play, you better go check them out. It features Ichabod Crane, the main character played by Kyle Squire, Katrina van Tassel, the dream girl played by Delilah Schultz, and Crayon, the storyteller played by Claire Vandersee. However, if you want a quick refresh on this segment, you’re in luck.
If you still happen to be unaware, the West High Theatre Department is putting on Sleepy Hollow. It has four characters who share the responsibility of carrying the story of Sleepy Hollow forward. Those characters are Ichabod Crane, the stern pedagogue; Katrina van Tassel, the dream girl; Crayon, the storyteller; and Brom Bones, the maker of mischief. In this final week leading up to the big production, one actor will share their story each day, with a special guest for the final drop.
Our fourth feature today is Romeo Hill, a senior at West. He has played a part in West High Theatre for many years of his West High Career in both speech and plays. He is playing Brom Bones.
Q: What is your favorite part of this play?
A: My favorite of the play would be scaring Ichabod.
Q: What is your favorite part about your character?
A: I would say his name. Yeah, his name, that’s honestly why I picked him.
Q: How’d you feel when you found out you got the role?
A: I was very excited because I really wanted to be Brom Bones, and to my surprise, I got it! I was very excited.
Q: What are your opinions on the directors?
A: I love the directors. They’ve been my directors for as long as I’ve been here, so I trust them.
Q: How do you memorize your lines?
A: So, for me, how I memorize my lines is rehearsing the scene. It makes me memorize them, because I’ll memorize them as the scene goes.
Q: Do you have any goals going forward?
A: To make this the best show possible and to really make it a good show, even with my handicap. (Romeo broke his foot skateboarding).
Q: Why should people come see the show?
A: People should come see the show because, for one, it’s a more Halloween-related show, and it’d be perfect for people to come and watch, you know, the fall fades away, and just have one more sense of Halloween.
Q: Why should people come audition for West Theatre?
A: People should come audition for West Theatre because, in my opinion, theater is just something that brings out the good in everybody and it brings out a side of you that you’ve never felt before. It makes you more social. It makes you less socially awkward because you’re able to express yourself in front of people who will not judge you, no matter what.
And with that, it’s a wrap on today’s behind-the-scenes of Sleepy Hollow. There is one day left until opening night. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Shows are 11/06 at 7 pm, 11/07 at 7 pm, and 11/08 at 2 pm. Come out and support your fellow Wahawks!
