If you haven’t checked out Pt. 1 of the Mighty People Behind the Fall Play, you better go check it out. It features Ichabod Crane, the main character played by Kyle Squire. However, if you’re looking for a quick refresh on this segment, you’re in luck.
If you happen to be unaware, the West High Theatre Department is putting on Sleepy Hollow. It has four characters who share the responsibility of carrying the story of Sleepy Hollow forward. Those characters are Ichabod Crane, the stern pedagogue; Katrina van Tassel, the dream girl; Crayon, the storyteller; and Brom Bones, the maker of mischief. In this final week leading up to the big production, one actor will share their story each day, with a special guest for the final drop.
Our second feature today is Delilah Schultz, a senior at West, who is a part of the West High Cheer team and has played a part in West High Theatre for several years. She is playing the role of Katrina van Tassel.
Q: What is your favorite part of this play?
A: My favorite part of Sleepy Hollow is the eeriness we as actors can bring to the stage and the relationships we can bring to life.
Q: What is your favorite part about your character?
A: My favorite part about Katrina is how confident she is.
Q: How’d you feel when you found out you got the role?
A: I have loved Sleepy Hollow for five years and always imagined what it would be like to play Katrina. And now that I’m doing it, I couldn’t be happier or more fulfilled.
Q: What are your opinions on the directors?
A: I have loved every second working with our directors; they truly know how to bring a scene to life, and I’m excited to see how the play turns out.
Q: How do you memorize your lines?
A: I memorize lines best through rehearsals and practicing my movements. But outside of that, I run lines with a partner or even in the mirror.
Q: Do you have any goals going forward?
A: My goal is to take the skills I learn from this play and use them during large group theater!
Q: Why should people come see the show?
A: People should come see the show because it’s the best way to wrap up the fall season. It’s also the perfect excuse to gorge on your remaining Halloween candy with some entertainment.
Q: Why should people come audition for West Theatre?
A: Everyone should audition for West Theater because of how it can change you as a person. I personally have gained some confidence, pride and joy working with this department. There’s something for everyone in Theatre; it’s just a matter of auditioning.
And with that, it’s a wrap on today’s behind-the-scenes of Sleepy Hollow. There are three days left until opening night. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Shows are 11/06 at 7 pm, 11/07 at 7 pm, and 11/08 at 2 pm. Come out and support your fellow Wahawks!
