March 27, was the annual election day for Waterloo West high students. Every year the Student Senate hosts an election for Student Body President, Vice President, Secretary and Media Manager. These four positions are voted upon by West High students excluding seniors who will not be a part of the next school year. Those running for positions consist of Juniors who will be Seniors the following school year.
Usually this election day takes place the last day before spring break but this year looked a little different. West High suffered a power outage that caused the March 13. school day to be cancelled and postponed the election to a couple weeks later on the 27.
The assembly started at 9:20 in the morning. The program kicked off with a short video featuring West High staff who are also alumni of the school. Next up, current Student Senate President Araceli Perez-Torres introduced each candidate for their respective position. ”
Esma Krgo was the lone candidate for Social Media manager. Krgo has been a part of Senate for over two years as well as BPA, Swim, Track, Debate and Link Crew. Krgo also enjoys playing guitar and baking in her free time. Krgo described her mission as “A way to bring senate closer as a community and show how fun senate can be to create a connection with the student body.”
Aebry Caughron was the sole runner for the Secretary position inside of Wahawk Senate. Along with being active in Student Senate, Caughron participates in Tennis, Bible Club and Link Crew. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Caughron shared her interest in the position as an opportunity to help “push West High to become more connected…and students becoming more involved is important.”
Ella Breitbach is the one and only running for vice president for next years Wahawk Senate. In addition to Student Senate, Breitbach participates in Yearbook, German Club, Link Crew, National Honors Society and the Dance Team. She has been apart of senate for two years and has hopes to “organize events that are interesting to our student body as a way to increase class participation.
Your 2027 Class President, Harrison Ritter. Ritter defeated his fellow classmate June Bertrum. As well as participating in Student Senate, Ritter is a part of the Waterloo Youth City Council and competes on the Golf, Swim and Tennis teams here at West High. Ritter came out with a mission saying “
